Makaton on TV

The Accessible Information Standard is a law which aims to make sure people with communication challenges are given information they can understand.  It is vital that all media platforms cater for our Makaton Community of over 1 million people. The sense of inclusion when shows such as Strictly Come Dancing sign ‘thank you’ in recognition that Makaton Users are watching and voting, is truly remarkable.

With inclusion and diversity being high on broadcaster’s agenda, Makaton Core Users have increased opportunities to work on TV shows. It is crucial that when they are employed, Makaton is used within the show to ensure their contribution is understood and meaningful not only for the actor but for their colleagues and viewers.

We are proud to collaborate with the TV industry to promote industry excellence by delivering inclusion for our Makaton Users. We make sure that we uphold the integrity of the Makaton Language programme and move forward, leading the way for innovation and creativity within mainstream media channels.
